Food Safety and Quality Manager

The Food Safety and Quality Manager will support the Director in developing, implementing, and continuously enhancing quality assurance (QA) programs to ensure all products meet customer specifications and comply with regulatory standards. This manager will train, and supervise QA team members. Further this manager will oversee facility compliance and manage interactions related to BRC certification.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of Food Safety and Quality Manager:

  1. Lead and manage the QA team.
  2. Monitor, review, and update HACCP, SSOP, and other QA protocols.
  3. Develop and implement new QA procedures.
  4. Oversee daily HACCP and SSOP documentation.
  5. Record, analyze, and communicate raw product reports.
  6. Conduct quarterly and annual reviews of selected QA programs.
  7. Investigate and resolve issues related to food safety, quality, USDA, and FDA compliance.
  8. Analyze production data statistically to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  9. Represent the company during third-party audits.
  10. Investigate customer complaints, respond promptly, and document findings.
  11. Lead the development and delivery of plant-wide training programs focused on product safety, regulations, and audit readiness.
  12. Maintain systems to ensure compliance with all BRC Food Safety Standards, including Management Commitment, Document Control, Supplier Approval, Specifications, Internal Audits, Inspections, Verification, Incoming Ingredient Inspection, Traceability, Recall procedures, and Facility Design.
  13. Ensure facilities meet BRC standards.
  14. Manage pest control efforts.
  15. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Tasks outside the primary scope may be assigned as needed to support overall objectives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or related field, with at least 3 years in QA management or supervision in food processing, or 7+ years in QA leadership roles; experience in meat processing is highly preferred.
  • HACCP certification.
  • Knowledge of USDA, FDA, and GFSI audit schemes, with BRC experience a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent English communication skills, with bilingual skills in English and Spanish a plus.
  • Fundamental understanding of algebra and statistics.
  • Ability to create, manage, and maintain documentation and records.
  • Valid driver’s license for Oregon in good standing.

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly use hands for handling, reaching, talking, and hearing.
  • Stand and walk frequently; sit occasionally.
  • Lift up to 10 pounds regularly; up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Maintain visual acuity for color, depth, peripheral vision, and focus.

Compensation:

Compensation is highly dependent on education and experience. Includes base ($80K to $100K) incentives, benefits, PTO.
