Job Summary for Vice President Foodservice Sales
The Vice President Foodservice Sales will play a pivotal role in driving sales and collaborating with Executive Management to bring innovation and critical thinking to our business development and partnership process.
The position reports to the President and leads a team of seven, including a Sr. Director, Territory Managers, and Sales Operations.
The VP will develop and lead sales strategies to maintain the existing base and acquire new business, delivering top-line growth that is margin-accretive.
The VP will be responsible for developing sales strategies and plans (both 5-year and annual) in partnership with Marketing to support the overall business strategy and be accountable for all sales channels, including Independent Street, National Accounts, Ingredients, and International.
The role requires a builder – a builder of sales operations and management processes, as well as a proven developer of people and customer relationships.
The ideal candidate will bring a General Manager mindset and leadership experience on a foodservice team. The ideal individual will possess a deep understanding of the foodservice industry, foodservice distribution, and national accounts, as well as a proven track record of successful execution.
Responsibilities:
Channel Leadership:
- Overall responsibility for the sales channels for planned volume and margin, from strategy development to plan execution and management. Cross-functional partner support: Finance and Marketing.
Collaboration & Cross-Functional Coordination:
- Establish best practices for working successfully across teams, including Technical R&D, Marketing, Quality Assurance, Customer Service, Supply Chain, Logistics, and Operations, to maximize goals and objectives. Establish a tool for sales opportunity management, build strategic plans, track, forecast, and communicate internally on customer prospects and closure.
Sales Growth & Revenue Generation, Strategic Planning:
- Participate in the development and execution of the company’s strategic plans and growth initiatives, including new product introductions, channel expansion, and completion of strategic acquisitions.
- Develop the approach and lead the team in executing actionable (both long-term and short-term) business plans in conjunction with individual account margin performance. Maximize results within RFP/Contract management, collaborating closely with the CFO, with a focus on multi-year operator agreements. Support strategic company initiatives, including channel growth optimization.
- Identify, analyze, and monitor new and emerging accounts and channels (based on product mix and potential) with a focus on future accounts, while carefully managing internal resources and expenses against potential returns.
Customer Engagement and Satisfaction:
- Develop, expand, and promote key Top-to-Top level Distributor and Operator relationships that penetrate all key functions and levels.
- Build a process for the management and execution of information flow with customer and internal partners for efficiency and to maintain pricing and margin integrity that meets total company guidelines.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Marketing, or related field (MBA preferred).
- 10+ years of experience in foodservice sales.
- Seasoned leader who has led foodservice teams and has a strong industry reputation and relationships.
- Sales process experience: sales planning and funnel management, customer segmentation, large account management planning, and negotiation excellence.
- Strategic thinker with execution excellence and P&L experience/GM mindset.
- Strong developer of talent.
- Ability to travel up to 50% required.
- Computer Skills: Salesforce proficient, MS Office, Excel, Word, Outlook, Accounting Software (Navision) a plus.
- Must be able to pick up 40 lbs. and sit or stand for long periods of time.
