The Controller is responsible for the general ledger accounting, cost accounting, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and in maintaining and developing internal controls for 6 facilities (4 seasonal plants and 2 year-around packaging centers).  Develops and maintains accounting policies and procedures to ensure financial reports and other financial information and systems are accurate, in accordance with GAAP, timely, and informative.

The Controller position requires the ability to highlight trends for management. This service oriented position functions as critical support to the Corporate Accounting team and is a pivot point for ensuring accuracy and timeliness in satisfying day-to-day facility and departmental informational needs.

The individual in this position will also have the opportunity to manage/lead all accounting positions in the Renton office.

The individual must be a quick learner to fully understand the operations to service internal reporting needs, along with having the ability to make decisions based on limited information. In addition, the individual in this position must demonstrate initiative, creativity and be self-motivated; along with having the ability to train others. Effective working relationships and communications are key to the success of this position.

This position requires ease in adapting to quickly changing duties, responsibilities, and priorities. Overtime requirements in this position are common and may be required to meet operational goals.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Carries out ad-hoc, interim, monthly and year-end financial statement preparation and reporting.
  2. Provides in depth analysis and reporting of financials.
  3. Responsible for accurate set up of plants standard costs.
  4. Will have fiduciary responsibilities to include oversight of pension plans, 401(k) plan and banking relations.
  5. Authorizes expenditures within established guidelines. Will sign off on invoices over $10,000. Also, check/monitor the daily disbursements report for familiar vendors and proper coding.
  6. Manage general accounting, cost accounting, accounts payable and receivable functions. This includes defining expectations, hiring, training, troubleshooting, and maintaining effective working relationships.

 

  1. Maintain effective working relationship with external vendors and service providers.
  2. Able to develop and maintain a system of internal controls.
  3. Provides financial support to plant level and executive management regarding ongoing plant improvement projects.
  4. Recommends process improvements and works with management and staff to identify cost optimization.
  5. Organizes and structures the project performance and goal achievement of staff level accountants.
  6. Able to follow safe work practices and policies for an office environment as well as in a manufacturing plant.
  7. Will perform other special projects as assigned by the executive leadership team.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in accounting or business from four-year college or university;
  • Eight years of progressively responsible practical experience in cost accounting or general accounting;
  • OR equivalent combination of education, experience, and skills needed to successfully perform the essential job functions.
  • Able to supervise others and meet deadlines

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of GAAP accounting principles, policies, laws, and best practices; processes and techniques.
  • Proficient with budgeting and forecasting models
  • Effective oral, written communication and intrapersonal skills;
  • Able to present information and respond to questions from operations management, clients, customers, and other stakeholders.
  • Able to learn and understand complex computer systems and programs.
  • Able to work independently, and to effectively manage and direct the work of others.
  • Able to develop and maintain a system of internal controls.
  • Ability to work with diverse staff to accomplish organizational goals and objectives.
  • Ability to effectively work on multiple assignments, while responding to frequent interruptions and changing priorities.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with manufacturing processes are highly desired.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
