Import Logistics Manager
(Frozen Food, Santa Cruz County, On-site)

The Import Logistics Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of the import logistics team, ensuring the efficient, cost-effective movement of goods from international suppliers to customers. This role collaborates closely with the Director of Global Logistics and other departments to improve processes, optimize the use of our ERP and CRM systems, and provide the team with necessary support and training.

About the role of Import Logistics Manager

The Import Logistics Manager will oversee the import operations team with day-to-day transactions to ensure compliance with regulations and company policies. Develop and maintain relationships with customers, vendors, and freight forwarders to ensure seamless supply chain management.

Responsibilities of the Import Logistics Manager

  • Coordinate the movement of goods between international ports and domestic warehouses, including scheduling and tracking shipments.
  • Manage logistics and transportation costs, and negotiate carrier rates to maximize profitability.
  • Provide guidance to team members on customs procedures, documentation requirements, and trade compliance.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures to improve operational efficiency and reduce errors.
  • Learn and understand logistics responsibilities and functions in Business Central (BC) and Customer Engagement (CE) to better facilitate process development and ensure the team utilizes systems effectively.
  • Stay current with industry trends, regulations, and best practices, and recommend improvements to management.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and issues promptly and professionally to maintain satisfaction.
  • Prepare and present performance reports to senior management regularly.
  • Generate reports on shipment status, delivery performance, and logistics KPIs.
  • Investigate and report any shipment discrepancies or non-conformance to management.
  • Assist with regression testing when implementing updates to ERP and CRM systems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • A. or B.S. in transportation, logistics, or supply chain management and 5+ years of logistics experience in an import/export environment; equivalent additional experience considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Bilingual fluency in Spanish strongly preferred; experience working with a multilingual and international client base
  • Experience managing a team of Import Associates

Required Skills

  • Proven resourcefulness and ability to solve complex logistical problems while working with minimal direction
  • Broad understanding of supply chain and global market impact
  • A thorough understanding of Incoterms for the purchaser and seller
  • Basic understanding of USDA, customs, and FDA processes, including exam and hold types
  • Clear understanding of transportation terminology related to ocean cargo and over-the-road transportation.
  • Working knowledge of vessel clearance, freight/terminal releases, and port processes, as well as transaction detail nuances for each trade lane
  • Familiarity with navigating transportation management systems (TMS), warehouse management systems, port terminal platforms, ocean liner websites, and customer portals
  • Strong written, verbal, and customer service skills, including strong telephone communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving, negotiation, and analytical skills
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex transactional information clearly and concisely
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines while managing multiple priorities
  • Strong business acumen with a solid understanding of how cross-functional teams and roles connect to the big picture process
  • Collaborative with strong initiative and drive
  • Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and respectfully
