The Site Operations Manager is a key member of the leadership team including the HAACP and Safe Quality Foods (SQF) team and works in close collaboration with the local quality, maintenance, engineering, human resource and finance functions which do not report under this role, as well as the regional functions including sales and customer innovation. The primary purpose of this role is to direct the activities of the Plant’s Production and Supply Chain teams, prioritized to safety first at all times followed by facilitating the organization to meet the increasing and growing needs of the company and its customers for the production and delivery of quality product in an efficient manner on time and in full consistent with the best practices of TPM and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities:
Site Operations (Production and Supply Chain)
- Leads and assures the proper coordination of the site production and supply chain teams, and also with the regional supply chain, purchasing, commodities and Go To Market (sales and contracting) organizations.
- Ensures that all persons under his/her jurisdiction are properly trained and fully qualified in the tasks associated with the position including quality expectations, safety and GMP.
- Notifies by email or memo company management, any serious conditions or situations – both immediate and forecast, that may lead to downtime, product loss, personnel injury or the inability to meet forecast or contracted sales needs. Reports must be made immediately and in a timely fashion as directed by the Site Director.
- Assures a positive team based work environment which embraces and drives the principles of continuous improvement through TPM and related practices to continually progress as best in class in cost, quality and delivery.
- Performs duties as assigned and all other functions as required for the proper operation of the facility.
Plant Administration
- Plans, organizes, trains, and promotes by directing department staff in improving their effectiveness and productivity of all operations (production and supply chain) and make recommendations in this regard to the Site Director and other members of senior leadership.
- Recommends personnel hiring, transfer, promotion, termination, disciplinary actions, and wage and salary adjustments according to policies laid down by management in the areas under his/her jurisdiction.
- Prepares reports and coordinate meetings to provide the Site Director, accounting, and related regional functions, with sufficient and timely information to track KPI’s including costs, inventory, production and delivery related metrics.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Business/Management with 7+ years of experience in a process manufacturing environment or 10+ years of experience in a supervisors/management/leadership role in a manufacturing environment is required with related and progressive leadership experience covering production operations and supply chain
- Extensive fats and oils processing experience. Technically savvy; understands the chemistry and can effectively share their knowledge with the team
- Experience in metrics tracking, TPM and continuous improvement necessary.
- Excellent leadership skills with continuous improvement/training required to gain the experience and knowledge of all processes. Ability to identify root cause and develop action plan.
- Lean Manufacturing 6 sigma experience a plus.
- Experience in managing multi-functional and layered teams and in a union environment operating 24/7.
