Position Overview – Food Safety and Quality Manager:

Reporting to the Head of Operations, the Food Safety and Quality Manager is a key member of the leadership team responsible for establishing, leading, and maintaining a food safety and quality culture across the company. The individual will ensure compliance with all food safety and quality management programs to eliminate risks to customers, the public, and employees, and ensure product quality meets or exceeds expectations.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the company’s Quality and Food Safety initiatives, ensuring strict adherence to all regulatory and company-specific food safety systems, procedures, and practices.
  • Manage and motivate a team of Quality and Food Safety Managers and Technicians, fostering a sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Work closely with Operations management and senior leaders to promote a safe facility environment and cultivate a “safety first” culture.
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) where necessary.
  • Prepare for and coordinate interactions with third-party audits and auditors.
  • Collaborate with regulatory agencies such as the USDA and key customer QA representatives.
  • Oversee proper execution of product Food Safety and Quality testing and reporting.
  • Oversee the routine implementation of HACCP, QMS, and other prerequisite programs to comply with SQF Food Safety standards, working closely with the SQF Practitioner.
  • Lead the training and development of Quality Assurance Technicians, schedule and delegate tasks related to Food Safety Plans, SOP manuals, and other procedures, including monitoring and verification activities to ensure products meet regulatory and customer standards.
  • Manage Non-Conforming Equipment and Product Programs.
  • Provide guidance, leadership, and support for problem-solving efforts related to SOPs, GMPs, Quality, Food Safety, and Process Improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with FDA and USDA regulations.
  • Maintain proper management of Product Specifications and Document Control.
  • Display strong leadership to elevate the team and company’s Food Safety, Quality, and Accountability.
  • Oversee recall programs, conduct mock recalls, and implement updates as needed.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Food Science, or related field.
  • Over 7 years of Quality Assurance experience.
  • At least 5 years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Experience in the frozen potato or appetizer industry is a plus.
  • Skilled in leading and developing teams.
  • Knowledgeable in Quality, Food Safety, and Good Laboratory Practices.
  • Understanding of hygienic design principles.
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of HACCP, Food Safety Preventive Controls, SQF (or equivalent GFSI schemes).
  • Experience in developing SOPs, Policies, and Specifications.
  • Proficient in Internal Auditing.
  • Competent in Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint.
