Roadmap to Your Dream Job

There’s this little lie most of us tell ourselves about our careers“Everything is ok.”  We tell ourselves that even if we don’t love our job, if we just keep plugging away, we’ll have nothing to worry about.  The truth however is — whether we choose to admit it or not, even if we love our job — the one thing we can count on is change.  Long gone are the days of our parents or grandparents, who spent their entire work life with a single employer, doing the same job, or working their way up a career ladder.

Even if we really do admit to ourselves we can’t just coast, why do we?

Because stretching beyond what we do daily, is scary.  Taking ownership for managing our career – looking for and finding a mentor, envisioning and driving a career path, networking, participating in professional organizations, continuing education, etc., is uncomfortable. Job search, which is just one part of career management, is especially fraught with anxiety and uncertainty.

And yet, the only thing worse than taking ownership for managing your career is not taking ownership.  You and you alone can manage your career.  Not managing it means a lifetime of missed opportunities.  What do you do when that job you took for granted for so long evaporates unexpectedly?

Job search is probably the scariest part of career management and yet the most vital.  Sure, it’s easy to put off job search, or waste time and money on unproductive activities.  Instead, click here for your free Job Search Roadmap, the perfect tool to get you focused on your dream job.

Don’t wait.  No matter what stage you’re at, your career management needs to be an ongoing process.

Dream jobs do exist. You can land that job you’ve been dreaming about – you know  — the one that utilizes your skills, provides professional growth potential, pays well, is fairly close to home or allows telecommuting when necessary, the company culture is supportive and your boss is the best ever.

Whether you find yourself suddenly without a job, stalled out in a job with little or no advancement, seriously underpaid, really frustrated with your new boss, passed over for a promotion that you righteously deserved, new to the workforce or returning to work – the steps for smart and efficient job search is straightforward.  But you have to have a plan and you have to stick to it.
